This is very much the 'me' generation. I don't see this approach having much appeal to them. There will always be the outliers who are grabbed by it, but I doubt that there will be nearly enough volunteers to make up the apparent slack in the demand.
Better planning of the end game might've helped, but it is now too late for any planning to help that much. I suspect we are now there for the long haul, whether we train Iraqi troops or not. Iraqi volunteers for police and security are being killed by suicide bombers faster than we can recruit them -- same problem as we are experiencing here.
