The one thing that is unclear to me from my cursory read is that this conflict has elements of political, economic, religious, and ethnic components, fueled by good old-fashioned 'I'm doing it because I can.' It strikes me that the Jajaweed is pandering to Bushl's 'war on terror' as a device to keep the U.S. at bay in the struggle. But, ironically, what the Jajaweed is doing IS terror, and we have grave humanitarian reasons to get involved on some level.
